about

"If you were to add the sound of an old scratchy 78 disc to the reductive quality of this cassette recording, you might be convinced you were listening to some out of whack Oskar Schlemmer ballet - and the reason for the Bauhaus’ eventual demise. It was recorded in Holland and there is no trumpet (except for the imitation of one at the end), however as German trombonist Gunter Christmann used to put it, 'Dutch music tends to deliver tunes with wrong notes’. It remains a favourite of mine, and I wish we had had the opportunity of a studio recording to do this bizarre combination justice. From memory the session took place on a Sunday morning, hence the Dutch sermon which appeared when someone turned on the radio…suitably accompanied by Marcel. Please enjoy the spiritual wow and flutter." - Jon Rose
