The playing of music requires and uses more parts of the brain than just about any other human activity, but in the 21st century, the value of music as a practice is in chronic decline.

rosenberg 3.0: not violin music is a set of writings by musicians and musicologists, balanced finely on the line between fact and fiction, drawing on the past, considering the ironies of the present, and looking at the future with a mixture of allegorical horror, satire, critical analysis, bravado, and optimism.

Against the Wind
22nd September 1981
Played on the organ at Lindfield Uniting Church, Tryon Road, Lindfield, Sydney

Orgel Spiel
15th and 16th January 1981
Played on the organs at St Peter's Church, Bridge, and St Mary's Church, Patrixbourne in Kent, England

These are the best performances from Jon's two organ releases, digitised and released as a bonus CD in the first copies of his book "Rosenberg 3.0: not violin music".

[From the CD]
"Any similarity to the cassettes released on Fringe Benefit Records by Jon Rose in 1981, catalogue numbers FBR 31 and FBR 40, is purely coincidental.
These recordings are taken from a commercially-produced cassette with the inherent wow, flutter, and distortion; some of the tape hiss has been removed. The original master (as with all FBR masters) was lost."
[From the book back cover:]
"The playing of music requires and uses more parts of the brain than just about any other human activity, but in the 21st century, the value of music as a practice is in chronic decline.
rosenberg 3.0: not violin music is a set of writings by musicians and musicologists, balanced finely on the line between fact and fiction, drawing on the past, considering the ironies of the present, and looking at the future with a mixture of allegorical horror, satire, critical analysis, bravado, and optimism."

Fringe Benefit Records Sydney, Australia

Fringe Benefit Records was set up in 1977 by Jon Rose as a tape library of Australian improvised music. By the time of the final release in 1985, more than 50 cassettes and more than a dozen LPs had been released. This site now exists to digitise and bring those releases to a new audience, beginning with the compilation double CD released on Entropy Stereo Recordings in Michigan in 1998... ... more
